Bretts Frees up Warehousing Space

Bretts Transport has freed up 6,000-pallet spaces in its Guyhirn-based warehouses to help increased demand among businesses looking for more storage space.

The move follows an increasing number of requests from businesses seeking third party storage solutions, including companies from outside the UK looking for a partner to store and deliver their goods.

As well as creating savings on storage overheads Bretts’ dry bonded status also allows importing customers to store their goods in customs warehousing without having to pay import duty and VAT until they are sold or leave the warehouse.

Simon Brett, Managing Director of Bretts, said:

“We are seeing an increase in the number of customers approaching us who are looking to outsource their warehouse and storage operations.

“The extra 6,000 pallet spaces situated within our secure units are ideal for items such as ambient foods, not least high value items such as imported tinned tuna – one of many items that are subject to a high amount of duty, but by carefully selecting the right time to import it and storing it for a few months before selling on it is an excellent way for customers to manage cash flow and costs, in some cases making substantial savings.”

Bretts operates 260,000 sq ft of ambient warehousing at Guyhirn. The company typically delivers in excess of 12,000 pallets of food and food grade packaging every week.

The majority of stock is stored in racked locations according to product type and customer requirements. All stock is palletised, wrapped and labelled before being stored.

Every warehouse location is numbered with a scannable barcode and each pallet has its own unique ID. Bretts’ advanced warehouse management system allows customers full, real-time traceability from arrival at the Bretts warehouse through to delivery to the end customer.

The company specialises in storing ambient foods and grocery products in palletised, slipsheet and handball form, with the capacity to receive up to 1,000 pallets per day.
